Our story
A Home Built on Quiet Dedication
Bamboo Court was shaped by a straightforward conviction: that the later years of life deserve as much care and intention as any other.
← Back to HomeWho we are
More Than Twelve Years of
Thoughtful Residence
Bamboo Court opened its doors in the Sha Tin district of the New Territories more than a decade ago, founded by a small group of care workers who felt that the existing options for elderly individuals in Hong Kong were either too clinical or too impersonal. They believed that something gentler was possible — and needed.
The name Bamboo Court reflects two things: the resilience and flexibility that characterise a well-lived life, and the courtyard tradition — a gathering place where community forms naturally, without pressure or agenda. From the beginning, we have tried to build that kind of environment.
Over the years, our community has grown. We have welcomed more than 320 residents and day guests, each with their own story. Our team has grown too — thoughtfully, prioritising people who share our outlook over those who merely meet a checklist.
Our Mission
To provide elderly individuals with a residential environment where each person's dignity, comfort, and social connection are held with genuine care — not as a policy, but as a daily practice.
Our Vision
A Hong Kong where the later stages of life are associated with warmth, community, and personal meaning — and where families feel genuinely supported in the choices they make for their loved ones.
Our Values
Respect for individuality. Transparency with families. Consistency in daily care. Humility in our approach. These are not aspirations — they are the things we return to when a decision becomes difficult.
The people behind the care
Our Team
Each member of the Bamboo Court team was chosen not only for their experience, but for the particular quality of their attention — the way they listen, remember, and show up.

How we operate
Our Standards of Care
Behind every comfortable day at Bamboo Court are practices and commitments we take seriously — not as compliance, but as the foundation of what we do.
Resident Privacy & Dignity
Every resident's personal space, belongings, and preferences are treated with full respect. Staff are trained in privacy-aware communication and room conduct.
Nutrition & Meal Quality
Our kitchen team follows balanced nutritional guidelines for older adults, accounting for common dietary considerations and personal food preferences documented at admission.
Family Communication
Families receive regular updates and are welcomed at the residence during open hours. Our family liaison team responds to enquiries within one working day.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
The residence undergoes regular safety reviews. Staff receive training in first response procedures, and emergency contact protocols are maintained for every resident.
Data Protection
Personal and family information is held in accordance with Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. Access is restricted to authorised staff with a direct care role.
Continuous Staff Development
Our care companions attend regular workshops on eldercare best practices, compassionate communication, and social engagement facilitation throughout the year.
Residential Care in Sha Tin That Puts the Individual First
Bamboo Court operates within the residential care landscape of Hong Kong's New Territories with a particular philosophy: that the individual experience of ageing matters more than any standardised programme. Each person who comes to us brings a lifetime of habits, preferences, and ways of engaging with the world. Our role is to accommodate those, not override them.
Sha Tin offers a relatively calm environment by Hong Kong standards — accessible by rail and road, close to green spaces along the Shing Mun River, and removed from the density of the urban core. These surroundings inform the atmosphere we try to maintain at Bamboo Court: unhurried, open, and oriented toward the small pleasures of each day.
Families who contact us often describe a similar concern: they want their loved one to be looked after by people who will notice when something changes, who will remember what was said the previous week, and who will treat the resident as a person rather than a resident. That is what we work toward, every day, in the ways that are possible within a non-medical residential setting.
